Radio / CD / Amplifier
Different radio models were installed in the Sierra and Escort Cosworth, but they all had an external amplifier in common because the radio itself did not have a powerful power amplifier built in.
The sound is typical 80s and the performance of the components is not really convincing.
The capacitors are often at the end of their lifespan, and the CD player often stops briefly when driving over a bump in the road.
In addition, the FM signal will be deactivated in the foreseeable future and a switch to DAB will be necessary if you do not want to do without listening to the radio.
Many people want to keep the radio for visual reasons and for its originality.
But a repair is not really worth it.
There are now radios with a retro design that are visually reminiscent of the 90s, but have all the modern features such as DAB, Bluetooth and SD/USB slots.
The following models are very similar to the original radio:
-Blaupunkt Bremen
-Blaupunkt Frankfurt
In both models, you can choose the backlight from 256 colors thanks RGB LEDs.
Other models from the following manufacturers:
-Retrosound
-Alpine
-Continental TRD7412
However, the Conti is only available with orange backlight
Since today's radios have an integrated amplifier, all original parts (radio/CD and amplifier) can be removed
Power and speaker adapter:
Installation is relatively easy with the right adapter plugs. Because of the external amplifier, conventional Ford ISO adapter cables do not fit in the Escort Cosworth and you have to think about how to connect the new radio to the car.
The following picture shows the amplifier socket in the Escort Cosworth.
This socket does not correspond to the usual audio connectors in Ford European models of that time.

For installation in the Escort Cosworth you need an adapter as shown in the picture above.
Simply search for "Ford Galaxy Radio Adapter" and the appropriate adapters will be displayed.
A notice:
On the Escort, the connector for the power supply on the radio is not the usual 7-pin but 8-pin. The Galaxy adapter is also 8-pin.
So if you think you have something like that lying around in your cable box, you should first count the pins.
Power and speaker adapter Sierra Cosworth:
The Sierra fits the usual Ford ISO adapters
The fully occupied 8-pin connector is for the speakers.
The 8-pin with 5 cables is for the power supply.
Note:
The power connector in the Sierra has a 7-pin housing, but it will fit into the 8-pin socket

Antenna splitter:
The Escort is equipped with a passive antenna with a DIN antenna connector.
Consequently, you need an active antenna splitter with a DIN antenna plug and socket and, depending on the radio, a suitable DAB socket (usually SMB )
A suitable model is the Blaupunkt DAB-S-22A

The blue cable is connected to the antenna output (remote) of the radio and serves as the power supply for the internal amplifier in the splitter.
The vehicle antenna is plugged into the socket, the two outputs of the splitter (SMB and DIN antenna) are plugged into the radio. That's all.
Sierra Sapphire Cosworth
The Sierra has an active windshield antenna installed, but it doesn't have phantom power supplied by the antenna cable.
instead, it is powered by a separate cable.
Since this antenna signal is already amplified, a passive splitter is required for the Sierra.
